The Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club is pleased to announce Tom Meredith as coach for the 2022/23 season.
“Tom has been with us for two years as a wicketkeeper and batsman of the highest talent, winning the coveted Merriman Medal in his first year,” said president Tom Levick. “He has impressed us with his belief in the club and where it can go, and we are pleased he has agreed to be coach.”
The club’s Director of Cricket, Steve Young also welcomed Tom Meredith’s appointment. “We are thrilled to have Tom lead this great club, with not only his cricket talent, but the character he has as an individual,” he said. “The club is in great hands and we are really excited about the next chapter at the Two Blues.”
Meredith is British by birth, but a True Blue by choice. “It is an honour to be made coach of such an illustrious club with an amazing history success and great players alike,” he said. “Having been here for two years, I have got to know the club and the players amazingly well.
This is my long-term home.
“My goal is to get this club back to where it belongs at the top of the GCA ladder. I believe there is an amazing group of people who play for this club across all the grades, but particularly in the higher grades where many have more to give.
“I will be looking to help the lads in all grades to achieve more, as well as attracting new lads to improve the club’s depth. My approach will include bringing in a selection of specialists coaches to support me in giving our training more purpose and bringing strategic planning to set us up for matchdays.
“Personally, it is a great honour, my first coaching role at such a great club with such a great group. It is an amazing opportunity and I would like to thank Tom and his committee for their confidence in me and hopefully we can repay that next year and beyond.”
